m... MM4.ug.....m.. . ,. .. ~- INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS - CRANKSHAFT REPAIR SLEEVE 1. USE WITH ONE PIECE FULL CIRCLE SEALS ONLY - CHECK CATALOG FOR APPLICATIONS ON TWO-PIECE SEALS. 2. Make sure seal surface is clean and free of burrs. USE N0 STUD LOCK TYPE MATERIAL. 3. It is recommended that a chamfer of 45 degrees, .050 wide be on the receiving edge of the crankshaft repair sleeve flange. Most crankshafts have a chamfer that will suffice. Through field installation research, it has become common practice not to put a chamfer on the flange. The thin material of the crankshaft repair sleeve seems not to interfere when the flex plate on the flywheel is torqued to the crank flange. Install without chamfer at your own risk. When installing undersize repair sleeve, follow extra installation Step 8. 4. In some cases the seal block has 3 aluminum fingers that extend toward the crankshaft 'and the fingers will interfere with the installed sleeve. If this is the case, grind end of fingers approximately .010 for sleeve clearance. 5. Install with proper installation tool. Carefully align sleeve with crankshaft flange. As crankshaft repair sleeve bottoms out, tap sharply to firmly set repair sleeve. 6. Install full round rear main seal using standard procedures. Note: seal wet lip must be square with the rotating mass of the crankshaft flange for proper function and to insure long seal life. 7. Seal and repair sleeve must be well lubricated over full 360 of contact surface for proper start-up lubrication. 8. EXTRA INSTALLATION STEP FOR UNDERSIZE REPAIR SLEEVE: Crankshaft MUST be ground at seal grooved area with a finished diameter noted in catalog. Installing undersize crankshaft repair sleeve will bring crankshaft seal wear area back to standard diameter. MADE IN U.S.A.
