Hyundai Genesis 2.0L Timing Chain Cover & Oil Pan Install - Sealant & Torque Specs

This is page EM-30 from an Engine Mechanical System service manual section, part of a timing chain installation procedure for a 2.0L engine. It covers final steps of timing chain cover installation and oil pan installation. For the timing chain cover, it specifies applying Loctite 5900H liquid sealant with a 3.0mm (0.12in.) bead width, assembling within 5 minutes, and using the cylinder block dowel pins and cover holes for alignment. Cover bolt tightening torques are given: M6 bolts at 7.8–9.8 N.m (0.8–1.0 kgf.m, 5.8–7.2 lb-ft) and M8 bolts at 18.6–22.5 N.m (1.9–2.3 kgf.m, 13.7–16.6 lb-ft). A firing/blow-out test must not be performed within 30 minutes of cover assembly. For oil pan installation, old gasket material is removed with a scraper, then Loctite 5900H or THREEBOND 1217H is applied and the pan assembled within 5 minutes. Cautions warn that sealant must not protrude into the pan interior and that sealant should be applied to inner threads of bolt holes to prevent leaks. Oil pan bolts are tightened uniformly in several passes to 9.8–11.8 N.m (1.0–1.2 kgf.m, 7.2–8.7 lb-ft), with a 30-minute wait before filling the engine with oil.
