This document is a Ford exploded-parts reference showing installation of radio frequency interference (RFI) suppression capacitors on 1987–1995 ignition systems. Four illustrations at the top show how the capacitor assembly mounts to the ignition coil and bracket assembly for four different engines: the 5.0L (MFI), 5.8L (MFI), 4.9L (MFI) with 75-amp alternator and manual transmission, and 7.5L (MFI). A fifth illustration shows installation of a capacitor to the voltage regulator on an E-Series with a 1G alternator (regulator not used with the ambulance package). A 13-item numbered legend identifies each callout with Ford base part numbers, including the 12029 coil and bracket assembly, 18801 capacitor assembly (radio ignition interference suppression), 18832 capacitor assemblies, 9D930 wiring assembly, 10316 voltage regulator assembly, 14A404 wiring mounting plate shield assembly, 13N850 and 14305 wiring assemblies, plus 40904-S36 and N803991-S36 screws and hardware that is part of the 12029 assembly. A reader can use this to identify the correct capacitor location, mounting hardware, and part numbers for suppressing ignition RFI on these engines.
This document covers 1987-1995, which may differ from this 1983 Ford Bronco.

Frequently asked questions
- What part number is the Ford radio ignition interference suppression capacitor?
- The legend lists item 3 as 18801 Capacitor Assembly - Radio Ignition Interference Suppression; items 6 and 11 are 18832 Capacitor Assemblies.
- Which engines does this RFI capacitor installation diagram cover?
- It shows capacitor installation for the 5.0L (MFI), 5.8L (MFI), 4.9L (MFI) with 75 amp alternator and manual transmission, and 7.5L (MFI) engines, plus the E-Series 1G alternator voltage regulator.
- Where does the RFI capacitor mount on the 5.0L engine?
- It mounts to the coil assembly — the illustration shows the 18801 capacitor attached to the 12029 coil and bracket assembly using a 40904-S36 screw, with a 9D930 wiring assembly.
- What is part 10316 in this diagram?
- 10316 is the Voltage Regulator Assembly, noted as not used with the Ambulance Package, shown in the E-Series 1G alternator capacitor installation.
- What screws are used to attach the capacitors?
- The legend lists a 40904-S36 screw (item 2), an N803991-S36 screw (item 9), and a screw that is part of the 12029 coil and bracket assembly (item 5).
