Nissan Micra Steering Column Exploded Diagram – Tilt & Non-Tilt Torque Specs
Exploded parts diagram of steering column lower joint showing tilt and non-tilt type jacket tubes, snap rings and shaft assemblies.
This is page ST-4 of a factory service manual's Steering section, showing exploded parts diagrams of the steering column in two variants: TILT TYPE and NON-TILT TYPE. Each exploded view identifies the major components — sliding plate (with the note to properly position it on the steering column), column bracket, jacket tube assembly, column shaft assembly, lower joint, stopper, tilt lever (tilt type only), lower bushing (non-tilt type), plus fastening hardware such as the steering wheel nut, spring washer, plain washer, wave washer, and snap rings (marked 'Always replace'). Torque specifications are given in N·m (kg-m, ft-lb): steering wheel nut 39-54 (4.0-5.5, 29-40); column bracket bolts 9-14 (0.9-1.4, 6.5-10.1); tilt mechanism bolt 16-21 (1.6-2.1, 12-15); a 6 (0.6, 4.3) fastener; and lower joint bolts 31-42 (3.2-4.3, 23-31) for M10 size or 24-29 (2.4-3.0, 17-22) for M8 size. Grease application points are indicated at the column bearing and lower bushing. Figure reference codes SST371A and SST102A appear. A reader can learn component order for column disassembly/reassembly, which parts must be replaced, and all fastener torque values.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the torque spec for the steering wheel nut?
- 39 - 54 N·m (4.0 - 5.5 kg-m, 29 - 40 ft-lb), the same for both tilt and non-tilt columns.
- What are the lower joint bolt torque specs?
- M10 size: 31 - 42 N·m (3.2 - 4.3 kg-m, 23 - 31 ft-lb); M8 size: 24 - 29 N·m (2.4 - 3.0 kg-m, 17 - 22 ft-lb).
- Which parts must always be replaced when servicing the steering column?
- The snap rings — the diagram labels them 'Always replace' at the steering wheel end and on the column shaft.
- Where should grease be applied on the steering column?
- To the column bearing (both types) and to the lower bushing on the non-tilt type column.
- What is the torque for the column bracket/mounting bolts?
- 9 - 14 N·m (0.9 - 1.4 kg-m, 6.5 - 10.1 ft-lb); the tilt mechanism bolt is 16 - 21 N·m (1.6 - 2.1 kg-m, 12 - 15 ft-lb).
