Ford TSB 88-5-14: Erratic/Low Oil Pressure Gauge Fix 1987-88 F-Series & Bronco

This is Ford Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) Article No. 88-5-14 covering 1987-88 F-Series trucks and Broncos built before 10/01/87. It addresses an oil pressure gauge that shows an erratic or low reading even when actual engine oil pressure is within specification. Ford identifies the cause as the oil pressure sender not working properly with the magnetic oil pressure gauge. The corrective action is to install a new design oil pressure sender and a new design 20 ohm resistor wire assembly. The four-step procedure: remove the existing sender, install the new sender torqued to 10-18 lbs.-ft. (13-24 Nm), connect the female terminal end of the 20 ohm resistor wire assembly to the sender, and connect the male terminal end to the vehicle wire harness (referencing Figure 5). An application chart lists service parts: E6SZ-9278-A oil pressure sender for 5.0L, 5.8L, 7.3L, and 7.5L engines; E8TZ-9278-A oil pressure sender for the 4.9L engine; and E6SZ-9F291-A resistor wire assembly for all engines.
