i IE 36 Windshield Wiper/Washer How the Circmt Works The windshield Wiper/washer electrical system consists oi I wiper motor a washer pump and motor a fluid reservoir a control switch a circuit breaker inside the control SWltch I intermittent wipers are also equipped with a variable governor With the ignition switch in the RUN or ACCY position I power is supplied through fuse 11 to the windshield wiper switch I the switch has OFF, LOW and HIGH positions (plus high on intermittent wipers) I pushing the switch activates the washer pump motor Trouble-Shooting (Conventional Wipers) Wipers do not operate , i , I check ior voltage at terminal oi wire 763 io/w) oi wiper switch If there is no voltage at terminal of wire 753 (o/w) . i . I check ior voltage at ignition switch I check wiring between wiperswitch and ignition swttch for continuity Ii there is voltage at terminal oi wire 736 io/w), but not at terminal of wire 63 it) . i i I replace the wiper switch Replace the wiper switch ii any of these occcur V . . I with the wiper switch in Low terminal oi Wire 58 iw/o) is not hot I with wiper swttch in HIGH terminaiot Wire 56 (bl) is not hot Ii these terminals are hot. . . I repair or replace Wiper motor ii the windshield wipers rail to park i i . I turn windshield wiper switch to OFF I check for power at terminals of wire 63 (r), 28 (bk/W) and 58 (We) at connector C502 It all three are hot or Ii only one is hot . . . I repair or replace wiper motor ii there is power at terminals 63 (r) and 28 (bk/W), but not at wire 58 (win) i . . I replace wiper switch It windshield washer fails to operate . , i I check for iluid in reservoir I check lor a blown lose 11 I check voltage atterminal oiwire 950 (w/ok) oi Wiper switch lino voltage is present I check the wire to the fuse I check for voltage at terminal oi Wire 951 (gr/bk) oi switch with knob pushed in It no voltage is present at terminal oi wire 951 (gr/bk) . .. I check that washer pump motor ground terminal is connected to ground it ground is good . i , I replace the switch if there is still no voltage at terminal oi wire 951(gr/bk). .. I check for voltage at motor ii there is voltage at the motor . . , I repairor replace washer pump motor Ii voltage is not present . . . I check wiring pack to wiper switch Trouble-Shooting (Interval Wipers) Ii wipers tail to operate , i . I put ignition swnch In RUN or ACCY position I check ior voltage at terminal oi Wire 297 (bk/gr) and olwtre 63 lr) at the Wiper switch It there is no voltage at terminal at wire 297 (bk/gr). ,. I check wiring back to ignition swnch If there is voltage at terminal oi wire 297(hk/gr) out not at terminal oiwire 63 (r) . . . I replace the wiper sWitch Ii there is voltage at both terminals oi wire 297 (bklgr) and oi wire 63 (r) . i . I turn wiper switch to high I measure voltage at terminal oi wire 56 (bi) at the switch I measure voltage at terminal oi Wire 56 (bl) oi connector 0502 If there is no voltage at terminal of wire 56 (oi) oi switch . . . I replace the switch Ii there is voltage at terminal oi wire 56 (hi) oi connector C502 . . , I repair or replace the wiper motor ii there is no voltage at terminal at wire 56 (bi) oi connector 0502 , . . I put Wiper switch in LOW ORl I put interval knob to full counterclockWise I check iorground at terminals of wires 28 (bk/wt 57 (bkto governor) and 57 (bkto ground) it terminal of wire 57 (bkto ground) is grounded out not one or both oi other two . , i I replace the wiper switch Ii all threeare grounded. ,. I rotate interval knob clockwise I check ior re5istance change between the terminals of wire 28 (blow) and Wire 57 (bkto governor) whlle rotatiang knob I Wlth wrperswitch in load position check ior power at terminal oIWIre 58 (W0) oi connector 0502 iiiiishol... I replace the wtpermotor It it is not hot . i . I check Wiring between terminal of wire 58 two) and governor Ii wiring is OK . . . I replace the governor iithewipers iail to park . i . I turn Wiper switch to OFF position I check for power atterminals oiwtres 63 (r), 28 (bk/w) and SB (Win) at connector C502 it all or only one is hot. H I repair or replace wiper motor Ii terminals oi wires 63 (r), 25 (bk/w) are hot. but not terminal of wire 56 (wlo) . . .
