With the ignition switch in RUN or ACCY i V . I power is sent to an instrument voltage regulator I the regulator averages 5 volts pulsating output I power then goes to luel gage I the luel gage sender controls current New to the gage by varying resistance (between gage and ground) according to float level Trouble-Shooting It fuel gage Is lnoperatlve or inaccurate . . . I broken, corroded or covered (with rust proofing) wires I check fuel sender ground I measure resistance of fuel sender If resistance of fuel sender is not between 8 and 66 ohms . . . I replace fuel sender It resistance is OK . . . I unplug luel gage I connect leadof testlight to fuel gage connector I turn ignition switch to FlUN Itthelight is ashing .i . I the voltage regulator is OK If the light is constant . . . I replace voltage regulator It light is out . . . I check tor open wiring in circuit I measure tuel gage resistance It resistance Is not between 8 and 16 ohms I replace the luel gage Hat When ignition Switch to Sana Near ignition smn In Run and my a re 9 OHMS Temperature W9") w. I is powered by instrument voltage regulator I temperature sender controls current flow in circuit by varying resistance as temperature oi coolant changes Trouble-Shooting It gage is inoperable or inaccurate i . t I disconnect wires from temperature sender I check power available to sender connect lead oi test light. or gage tester to temperature gage wrre I connect other lead to ground I turn ignition switch to RUN If a flashing light appears . . . I instrument voltage regulator is operating "lightissteady I check regulatorground I if OK, replace instrument voltage regulator lfllght staysoff . t. I check foropen circuit in the regulator or gage wiring
