Warning Lights Oil Pressure Warning Light How It Works The oil pressure wamlng light comes on . . . I when ignition switch is at START or HUN I momentarily (until oil pressure builds) alter car is startet: I when oil pressure drops 0 predetermined level Trouble-Shooting It oil pressure light tails to come on with ignition switch at HUN (engine not running) . . . I check ior bumed out bulb I check wiring for continuity lioll pressure warning light does not go out when engine is running. .. I verify oil level at engine is correct I add oil it necessary ltoll level is satisfactory . . . I disconnect wire irom oil pressum switch it light remains on , .t I check iorground in wire irom switch to the light it disconnecting wire causes light to goout . . . I check oil pressure it oil pressure is OK . . . I replace oil pressure switch Brake Warnin Light How it Works The brake warning light comes on , . . I momentarily when engine is started I when brake pedal is applied and brake system is low on fluid I when parking brake is applied 9 Warning System Trouble-Shooting It brake light tails to come on when ignition switch is in START . . . I place Ignition switch in RUN (engine not running) I unplug connector from brake warning switch I ground both wires oi connector It light comes on t . . I check for continuity in connector to ignition switch I check for continuity in ignition switch START position if brake warning light stays on when car is running and parking brake or toot brake is not applied . . . I disconnect brake warning switch "warning light stays on . . . I check ior improper ground in wire irom warning light to brake switch it warning light goes out . . . I check ior grounding of terminals of brake warning switch I check for impropergrounding oiwire from brake warning switch to ignition switch It terminals are grounded. . . I replace brake warning switch It parking brake wamlng light does not come on with ignition switch in STARTor RUN . .. I disconnect park brake switch connector I ground pork brake warning wire it light does not come on . . . I check for burned out bulb I check ior open wire in cluster circuit if light comes on . .. I check iorcontinuiiy through switch I check for connection oi switch terminal ground It switch is open with parking brake 8931" - - - I replace the switch Alternator_ Warning Light How it Works The alternator warning light comes on when . . . I ignition switch Is in RUN or START and engine is not running I when alternator system is malfunctioning Trouble-Shooting It alternator light does not come on when ignition switch is turned to STARTor RUN ( engine not running) . . t I check for bumad out bulb it bulb is good... I check continuity between battery and terminal I voltage regulator It alternator warning light stays on while vehicle is operating . . . I verify that alternator is operating properly it altomstor system is operating properly . . t I unplug wire from alternator switch It light goes out . . . I replace switch it light stays on . . . I check ior loose connection or short to ground between battery feed and voltage regulator terminal is Seat Belt Warning Light and Buzzer How the Circuit Works The seat belt warning light and buzzer. . . I come on whenever ignition switch is turned from OFF to ON I stay on irom 4 to 8 seconds I the light is controlled by a thermal ; time-delay switch I the buzzer is controlled by the seat belt switch Trouble-Shooting ifthe seat belt wanting light and buyer tail to operate (both) . . . I unplug connector from seat belt switch and buzzer unit I check for power at input terminal ltthereisnopower . .. I check wiring I jumper between the two hot leads the buzzer (output) I replace the buzzer unit I check tor burned out bulb lithe seat belt warning light comes on. but the buzzer doesn't . .. I checkiorgroundatseaibeltwarnin light and buzzer connector lfthere is ground. V. I replace seat belt warning light and buzzer unit it it is not grounded . . t I check forcontinuity through seat be buckle switch I check that switch is properly installed and adjusted it there is no continuity with the bell released and adjustment and Installation are correct . . . I replace seat belt assembly
