1996 Ford 5.8L Engine Controls Wiring Diagram – PCM & Fuel Pump Relay (25-1)
Engine controls wiring diagram for 1996 Ford Bronco 5.8L showing PCM power, MAF sensor and fuel pump relay circuits.
This document is page 25-1 of a 1996 Ford wiring diagram set covering Engine Controls for the 5.8L engine, Under 8500 GVW. The diagram shows power distribution from the engine compartment fuse box (a 20A fuse hot in start or run, and fuses hot at all times, including a 30A and a 20A) through the PCM power diode to the PCM power relay and fuel pump relay. Explanatory callouts describe each component's function: the PCM power relay directs voltage to the PCM, fuel pump relay, and PCM-related components; the fuel pump relay directs voltage to the fuel pump; the mass air flow sensor (connector C130) measures intake air for fuel delivery, EPC pressure control, and transmission shift/converter clutch scheduling; the vapor management valve (C107) allows stored fuel-tank vapors from a charcoal canister to be burned; and the powertrain control module (PCM) receives sensor inputs to control fuel flow, EGR, ignition, transmission controls, and evaporative emissions. Wire circuit numbers and colors are given (e.g., 175 BK/Y, 361 R, 967 LB/R, 968 T/LB, 191 LG/BK, 926 LB/O, 238 DG/Y to the inertia fuel shutoff via C202M/C202F/C271, and 570 BK/W grounds to G100/G101). Cross-references point to power distribution page 13-5, grounds pages 10-1/10-3, and continuation pages 25-2, 25-4, 25-5, and 49-2.

Frequently asked questions
- What does the PCM power relay do on the 1996 5.8L engine?
- Per the diagram callout, it directs voltage to the PCM, the fuel pump relay, and PCM-related components. It is fed by a circuit hot in start or run through the PCM power diode (wire 175 BK/Y).
- What wire color goes to the inertia fuel shutoff switch?
- Circuit 238 DG/Y (dark green/yellow) runs through splice S139 and connectors C202M, C202F, and C271 to the inertia fuel shutoff, which is covered on page 49-2.
- What is the function of the vapor management valve (C107)?
- It allows gasoline vapors into the engine to be burned; a charcoal-filled canister collects and stores vapors from the fuel tank.
- What does the mass air flow sensor do according to this diagram?
- It measures the amount of intake air, which the PCM uses to calculate fuel delivery, EPC pressure control, and shift and converter clutch scheduling for transmission strategies. Its wires include 967 LB/R, 968 T/LB, 361 R, and 57 BK at connector C130.
- Where are the PCM grounds on this diagram?
- Ground circuits 570 BK/W run through splice S106 to grounds G100 and G101; see grounds pages 10-1 and 10-3.
