SCAT Connecting Rod Installation Instructions - Rod Bolt Torque & Stretch Specs
Complete SCAT connecting rods installation instruction sheet with numbered steps, torque/stretch spec table, and supplier contact information.
This document is a SCAT Crankshafts & Connecting Rods installation instruction sheet (an aftermarket parts insert, not a Ford factory document). It provides a four-step procedure for installing SCAT connecting rods: (1) disassemble and thoroughly clean the rods including bolt and beam threads to remove rust preventative; (2) apply ARP Molylube to the threads and under each bolt head; (3) align cap and beam and tap into place before installing bolts — the caps must never be pulled into position with the bolts, and each numbered cap must be matched to the beam with the same number; and (4) sequentially torque the bolts to the specified torque without exceeding the maximum bolt-stretch specification. A torque table lists ten rod bolt types (5/16", 3/8", and 7/16" ARP 2000, ARP 8740, ARP Wave Loc, and SCAT 2001 cap screws) with recommended torque values from 26 to 70 ft./lb using ARP moly lube, along with corresponding not-to-exceed stretch values ranging from .0046" to .0063". The sheet closes with SCAT's customer service hours (9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. PST, Monday–Friday) and phone number, (310) 370-5501, and is marked "OVER" indicating additional content on the reverse side.

Frequently asked questions
- What torque should SCAT connecting rod bolts be tightened to?
- It depends on the bolt: 5/16" x 1.500" ARP 2000 cap screws take 26 ft./lb; 3/8" bolts take 45–50 ft./lb; 7/16" bolts take 63–70 ft./lb, all with ARP moly lube. Each has a not-to-exceed stretch spec from .0046" to .0063".
- What lubricant does SCAT specify for rod bolt installation?
- Apply ARP Molylube to the threads and under the head of each bolt; all torque values in the table are given with ARP moly.
- Can I use the rod bolts to pull the caps into position?
- No. The instructions state in capitals: DO NOT USE BOLTS TO PULL CAPS INTO POSITION. Tap the cap into place before installing the bolts.
- How do I match rod caps to the correct rod?
- Each rod is numbered and MUST be assembled with the same number on cap and beam.
- What is the torque and stretch spec for 7/16" x 1.600" ARP 2000 cap screws?
- 70 ft./lb with ARP moly, not to exceed .0062" stretch.
