SCAT Connecting Rod Bolt Torque Specs - ARP 2000/8740 & SCAT 2001 Cap Screws
SCAT connecting-rod torque specification table listing ARP bolt sizes with recommended ft-lb torque and not-to-exceed stretch values.
This document is a SCAT connecting rod installation and torque specification sheet, supplied with SCAT crankshafts and connecting rods. It provides a four-step installation procedure: (1) disassemble the rods and thoroughly clean bolt and beam threads to remove rust preventative; (2) apply ARP Molylube to the threads and under each bolt head; (3) install rods by bringing cap and beam into alignment, tapping into place before installing bolts (bolts must never be used to pull caps into position), and matching the number on cap and beam; and (4) sequentially torque bolts to the specified torque without exceeding the maximum stretch specification. A table lists ten rod bolt types (ARP 2000, ARP 8740, ARP 8740 Wave Loc, and SCAT 2001 cap screws in 5/16", 3/8", and 7/16" sizes with various lengths) with recommended torque values from 26 to 70 ft./lb using ARP moly lubricant, and corresponding not-to-exceed stretch limits from .0046" to .0063". The sheet closes with SCAT's customer service hours (9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Pacific, Monday–Friday) and phone number (310) 370-5501, and is marked 'OVER' indicating a second side.

Frequently asked questions
- What torque should I use on 7/16" ARP 2000 rod bolts on SCAT rods?
- The sheet specifies 70 ft./lb with ARP moly for 7/16" x 1.600" ARP 2000 cap screws, not to exceed .0062" stretch.
- What lubricant does SCAT recommend for rod bolt threads?
- Apply ARP Molylube to the threads and under the head of each bolt; all torque values are given with ARP moly.
- Can I use the rod bolts to pull the cap into position?
- No. The instructions state DO NOT USE BOLTS TO PULL CAPS INTO POSITION — tap the cap into place before installing bolts.
- What is the torque for 3/8" ARP 8740 rod cap screws?
- 45 ft./lb with ARP moly for 3/8" x 1.600" ARP 8740 cap screws, not to exceed .0047" stretch.
- How do I contact SCAT with questions?
- Call (310) 370-5501 between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time, Monday through Friday.
