Ford Headlamp Wiring Diagram 085-001 - DRL Relay, Fuses & Multifunction Switch
Automotive wiring diagram for the headlamp circuit showing the main light switch, multifunction switch, DRL relay and color-coded wires.
This document is page 085-001, "Headlamps," from a Ford wiring diagram set. It traces the headlamp power circuit from the Battery Junction Box (fuse 3, 30A, hot at all times) through wire 196 DB/OG and splice S212 to the Main Light Switch (positions OFF, PARK, AUTO, HEAD; testing on page 149-1). From the switch, circuit 15 RD/YE feeds the Multifunction Switch, which contains the Flash-to-Pass and Dimmer switches (testing on page 149-6) allowing selection of high beam, low beam, or flash-to-pass. Output circuits include 632 GY/OG through the Central Junction Box (fuse 30, 20A) to circuit 12 LG/BK, and 1033 RD/YE via connector C253. The right side of the diagram shows the split between vehicles without DRL (132 OG/BK circuit) and with DRL (through Daytime Running Lamps Relay #2, page 97-2), both converging on circuit 13 RD/BK. The circuit then passes through the Central Junction Box fuses 27 (5A), 28 (10A), and 26 (10A), feeding the fog lamps (188 WH/BK, page 86-1), circuit 160 DB/WH to C159, and circuit 161 DG/OG to C160 on page 85-2. Cross-references to power distribution (13-2) and autolamps (87-2) pages are included.

Frequently asked questions
- What fuse powers the headlamp circuit at the Battery Junction Box?
- Fuse 3, a 30A fuse in the Battery Junction Box (hot at all times), feeding circuit 196 DB/OG. See Power Distribution page 13-2.
- What wire color is the main headlamp feed from the light switch?
- Circuit 15 RD/YE (red/yellow) runs from the Main Light Switch through splice S244 and connectors C253F/C253M to the Multifunction Switch.
- Which Central Junction Box fuses are in the headlamp/DRL circuit?
- Fuse 30 (20A), plus fuses 27 (5A), 28 (10A), and 26 (10A), which feed circuits 188 WH/BK (fog lamps), 160 DB/WH, and 161 DG/OG.
- How does the circuit differ with and without Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)?
- Without DRL, circuit 1033 RD/YE goes through C214M/C214F to circuit 132 OG/BK and then 13 RD/BK. With DRL, 1033 RD/YE feeds Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) Relay #2 in the relay block (page 97-2), whose output is 13 RD/BK.
- What does the Multifunction Switch do in this circuit?
- It contains the Flash-to-Pass and Dimmer switches, allowing the operator to select High beam, Low beam, or Flash to Pass. Switch testing is on page 149-6.
