The 1964 Volkswagen Beetle offered a crank-operated steel sliding sunroof in place of the folding fabric type used on earlier cars. The 1192cc 40 hp (SAE gross) engine continued unchanged. This was the last year of the smaller-window body; glass area grew substantially for 1965.
