1954 Volkswagen Beetle Specs & Photos
The 1954 Volkswagen Beetle received the enlarged 1192cc flat-four, rated 36 hp SAE gross (30 hp DIN), replacing the earlier 1131cc engine. Compression rose with the new unit, starting at 6.1:1 and reaching 6.6:1 late in the 1954 run. The car still wore the small oval rear window used from 1953 until the 1958 model year, and with Volkswagen of America not founded until 1955, these cars reached the US through independent distributors.
