The 1979 Ford E-150 received the third generation's first major facelift, replacing the original round sealed beams with rectangular headlamps in a revised grille. The new front end aligned the van with Ford's contemporary pickup styling and remained, through periodic grille updates, until the generation ended after 1991. Driveline offerings continued with the 300 cubic inch inline six standard and Windsor V8 options above it.
