Hyundai Genesis Ambient Temperature Sensor - Resistance Specs & Test Procedure

This service manual page covers the ambient (outside air) temperature sensor for a Hyundai Genesis-family vehicle. The Description section explains that the sensor is mounted at the front of the condenser and is a negative-coefficient thermistor whose resistance increases as temperature drops and decreases as temperature rises. Its signal is used for discharge temperature control, temperature regulation door control, blower motor level control, mix mode control, and in-car humidity control. A notice states that if ambient temperature falls below 2.0°C (35.6°F), the A/C compressor is stopped and can only be operated manually. The Inspection procedure instructs: turn the ignition OFF, disconnect the sensor, and measure resistance between terminals 1 and 2 while ambient temperature changes. A specification table lists resistance values at six temperatures, ranging from 163.31 kΩ ±3% at -10°C down to 16.032 kΩ ±3% at 40°C (e.g., 30 kΩ ±3% at 25°C/77°F). If measured resistance is out of specification, a known-good sensor should be substituted; if that corrects the problem, the sensor should be replaced.
