Ford Bronco Tailgate Power Window Wiring Diagram - Switch, Motor & Fuses
Wiring diagram of the tailgate power window circuit with master and key-operated switches, latch switch and color-coded wires.
This is a hand-drawn/simplified wiring diagram (credited "by FireGuy50") for a Ford Bronco tailgate power window circuit, uploaded to a 1988 Bronco gallery. It shows two power feeds from the fuse panel: fuse position 14 (20A circuit breaker, hot in ACC or RUN) feeding the master tailgate window switch via a light blue/black (LB/BK) wire, and fuse position 12 (20A circuit breaker, hot at all times) feeding the key-operated tailgate window switch via a black/white (BK/W) wire. The master switch (dash-mounted, UP/DOWN) grounds through a black (BK) wire at ground point G701. Purple/light green (P/LG) and pink/light blue (PK/LB) wires connect the master switch to the tailgate-mounted key-operated window switch through connector/splice 517. From the tailgate switch, a tan/black (T/BK) wire runs to the tailgate latch switch, which is open when the tailgate is not fully closed, and a red/yellow (R/Y) wire continues to the tailgate power window motor; a yellow/red (Y/R) wire feeds the motor directly from the switch. The diagram lets a reader trace power, ground, wire colors, and the latch-switch interlock for troubleshooting the rear glass motor circuit.

Frequently asked questions
- What fuse powers the master tailgate window switch?
- Fuse panel position 14, a 20A circuit breaker, which is hot in ACC or RUN, feeds the master tailgate window switch via a LB/BK wire.
- What powers the key-operated tailgate window switch?
- Fuse panel position 12, a 20A circuit breaker that is hot at all times, feeds the key-operated tailgate window switch through a BK/W wire.
- What does the tailgate latch switch do in this circuit?
- The tailgate latch switch is open when the tailgate is not fully closed; it sits between the tailgate window switch (T/BK wire) and the power window motor (R/Y wire), preventing motor operation with the gate open.
- What wire colors run between the master switch and the tailgate window switch?
- P/LG and PK/LB wires connect the master tailgate window switch to the key-operated tailgate window switch, passing through point 517.
- Where does the master tailgate window switch ground?
- Through a BK wire to ground point G701.
