1996 Ford Bronco 5.0L Engine Controls Wiring Diagram - EGR, IAC, Purge (24-2)
Ford 5.0L engine controls wiring diagram of EGR, secondary air injection, canister purge and idle air control valve circuits.
This is page 24-2 of a factory-style wiring diagram covering Engine Controls for the 5.0L engine, uploaded to a 1996 Ford Bronco gallery. It shows five emission/engine-control solenoids and valves fed by circuit 361 R (12V with relay energized): the EGR Control Solenoid (connector C180, output wire 360 BR/PK to PCM pin 33), Secondary Air Injection Bypass (AIRB) Solenoid (C1022, wire 190 W/O), Secondary Air Injection Diverter (AIRD) Solenoid (C1023, wire 200 BR to PCM pin 34), Canister Purge Solenoid (C171, wire 101 GY/Y to PCM pin 11), and Idle Air Control Valve (C1007, wire 264 W/LB to PCM pin 21). All control wires pass through connector C101 and terminate at the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) via connector C185. Callout notes explain each component's function: EGR vacuum regulation, secondary air routing, idle speed duty-cycle control, and canister purge operation. The bottom of the diagram shows PCM pin 42 (wire 784 LB/BK) going to the All-Wheel Drive circuit (page 34-3) and PCM pins 6 and 3 (wires 676 PK/O and 679 GY/BK) connecting to the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), referenced on pages 64-1 and 64-2. Useful for diagnosing emissions, idle, and PCM control circuits.

Frequently asked questions
- What wire color goes from the EGR Control Solenoid to the PCM on the 5.0L?
- Wire 360 BR/PK runs from the EGR Control Solenoid (connector C180) through C101 to PCM pin 33.
- What connector and wire does the Idle Air Control Valve use?
- The Idle Air Control Valve uses connector C1007 with wire 264 W/LB, running through C101 to PCM pin 21.
- How are these engine control solenoids powered?
- All five components (EGR solenoid, AIRB, AIRD, canister purge solenoid, and IAC valve) are fed by circuit 361 R, which supplies 12V when the relay is energized.
- What does the Canister Purge Solenoid do according to this diagram?
- When the PCM grounds the solenoid, fuel vapors collected by the carbon canister are released to the engine. It uses connector C171 and wire 101 GY/Y to PCM pin 11.
- Where does the Vehicle Speed Sensor connect on this diagram?
- The VSS connects via wire 676 PK/O (PCM pin 6) and wire 679 GY/BK (PCM pin 3); its full diagram is on pages 64-1 and 64-2.
