MSD Atomic Throttle Body PN 2910 Fuel Pressure Damper Install Addendum

This document is an official MSD addendum (form FRM32285, created 02/14, © 2014 MSD LLC) for the MSD Atomic Throttle Body, PN 2910. It explains that when the Atomic EFI is run with a returnless (Pulse Width Modulated) fuel system, installing a fuel pressure damper may cure part-throttle hesitation and mid-range sluggishness that cannot be tuned out with the Handheld Monitor; a damper is not required on return-style systems that use a regulator. Figure 1 identifies the required parts: HDW31053 O-ring, MSD32095 adapter fitting, WAS32185 crush washer, and a damper (not supplied). A table lists recommended dampers: Airtex/Wells 3G1066 and 3G1054, and BWD/Standard Motor Products FD450 and FD462. Five installation steps follow: install the O-ring on the adapter fitting without damaging it; place the crush washer between the fitting and damper so it engages the centering shoulder; hold the damper with a 7/8-inch wrench while torquing the adapter fitting with an 11/16-inch socket to 150-175 inch-pounds (12-15 foot-pounds); oil the O-ring and thread the assembly into a -6AN port on the throttle body; then snug it and perform at least two key-on/key-off cycles while checking for leaks.
